Statement
As a jewelry designer and artist, my work mostly explores the relationship between mechanics and the elegance of jewelry, gracefully marrying the two. My work is inspired by organic forms found in nature with a strong emphasis on movement. To capture the essence of the plants and organisms I study, I incorporate mechanisms into my work, which allow the pieces to embrace the movement inspired by the form. Always having an element of movement, either in texture and form, or kinetics and mechanisms, is a central theme seen throughout my work.
My work has pushed me as an artist to become a meticulous designer, considering all parts and functions of the design. I engineer each specific piece to balance the elegance of fine jewelry with a mechanism. Making fine jewelry such as rings, neckpieces and bracelets is how I translate my passions into a three-dimensional form that can then be cherished and proudly worn. I hope that my work will surprise my audience as there is often an element of kinetic movement or mechanism which adds intricacy to the design. I strive to wonder and enamor my audience with the design, elegance, and movement of my work.
Both hand fabrication and 3D modeling are the techniques I use. Silver is consistently my material of choice; often with the addition of precious gems or pearls.
Working with 3D modeling software allows my work to be developed and pushed further than metal fabrication alone would have allowed. The gentle aesthetic and movement in my work is the physical translation of my love and passion for nature.
